Alice Pride Breakfast

Big news: Our Pride Breakfast speaker lineup is coming together, and it is shaping up to be one of our most memorable gatherings yet.

As we commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Compton's Cafeteria Riot, we are proud to welcome an incredible lineup of leaders, advocates, and community voices. The morning will begin with an invocation from Rev. Megan Rohrer (they/them), followed by remarks from Mayor Daniel Lurie, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, California State Senator Scott Wiener, San Francisco Supervisors Rafael Mandelman and Matt Dorsey, and community historian Andrea Horne (she/her), whose work has helped preserve and elevate the history of the Compton's Cafeteria Riot and the generations of transgender pioneers who paved the way.

This year's Pride Breakfast honors six decades since the historic uprising in San Francisco's Tenderloin, when transgender women, drag queens, gay men, lesbians, and other LGBTQ+ community members stood up against police harassment and helped spark the modern movement for LGBTQ+ liberation.

Join us for an inspiring morning of celebration, remembrance, and action as we honor our history, recognize today's leaders, and recommit ourselves to the work that still lies ahead. The Pride Breakfast brings together community leaders, elected officials, activists, and changemakers from across California and beyond, and you will not want to miss it.

And we're not done yet. More special guests and speakers will be announced soon!

This gathering does not qualify as an official voting event for Alice endorsements.

Tom Temprano, Managing Director at Equality California, will moderate a panel featuring LGBTQ+ leaders in San Francisco who are doing the on-the-ground work to oppose the current federal assault on human, immigrant, and LGBTQ+ rights. This panel is a precursor to EQCA’s LGBTQ+ leadership summit on August 25-26 in Sacramento. The discussion will revolve around queer activism and leadership in the Trump era—focusing on policy, protest, identity, and the shape our resistance should take to be most effective. We will also discuss what we as LGBTQ+ Democratic club members should be doing in our activism. The Stud is opening specially for this important program, so we encourage members to come early and support this historic LGBTQ+ institution!

The Fight to Resist Autocracy and the Assault on the LGBTQ+ Community

The United States government has launched an autocratic assault on people of color, immigrants and the LGBTQ+ community–DEI programs terminated, trans and non-binary people erased from LGBTQ+ monuments, surveillance against LGBTQ+ people legalized, trans people banned from the military, immigrants and asylum seekers rounded up and deported.

What are our LGBTQ+ community organizations doing to fight back? And what can we do politically, and in our own lives, to support their work and resist the assault and defend the LGBTQ+ community?

Join Alice at The Academy SF in conversation with leaders from the National Center for Lesbian Rights, the Transgender Law Center, and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. We will update the community on the critical work these organizations are doing to protect LGBTQ+ people and discuss how we can uplift their work and resist the assault through our own efforts.

The program will consist of a panel discussion and an audience question and answer session. Stick around after the panel for a social hour to connect with panelists and fellow Alice members as we strategize ways to uplift community by standing strong and fighting back. 🍻

Program Participants:
Imani Rupert-Gordon, President, National Center for Lesbian Rights
Megan Noor, Transgender Law Center
Dr. Tyler TerMeer, CEO, SF AIDS Foundation
Moderated by Susan Belinda Christian, Program Co-Chair, Alice B. Toklas LGBTQ Democratic Club
